Giants take the lead in the Beltran trade race

With a little more than four days until the trade deadline, the Giants are in a good position to land Carlos Beltran.  Reports of this are popping up across the media boards this morning and almost all signs point to the Giants being the front runner.  There is no talk of what top prospects the Giants have thrown in, but I feel on of the top Giant prospects, Wheeler, needs to be included in the deal.  As July 31st approaches, we will all be waiting for the media alert and hopefully the good news.

Hey Carlos, get on a plane to Philly and join the Giants for their series against the Reds this weekend!

Cheers,

Giants trade news!!!

This just in, the Giants trade pitchers Henry Sosa and another no-name minor league reliever for Jeff freaking Keppinger.  Not sure about this one Sabean.  I guess this is the fill in for Freddy at second base.  Was this really needed is the question.  What about a bat we all speak of?  Let's hope this isn't the only trigger Sabean is going to pull.  one good thing is that the Giants didn't have to get rid of anyone important or special for Kep.

In other Giants news, Belt is called back up to the majors.

Anyway, let's get ready for another stomping tonight against the hatred Doyers!

Giants standing their ground even without a number of the key pieces of the puzzle!

Looking back on first half of the season, the Giants have to be feeling good about where they are right now.  They are 25-19 since Buster was lost for the year, 25-15 without the Panda, and 16-12 without clutch Freddy.  At 11 games over .500 and a three game lead in the NL West, the sun is shining bright in the city by the bay.  With the fourth fewest runs in MLB the Giants have had to rely on one thing, pitching.  This can only last for so long. Sabean is no dummy and should be one of the GMs around the league that will will pull the trigger on renting/trading a couple players to help this squad make another run deep into the playoffs.  The most important piece needed is a bat and a solid catcher.  Getting a bat like Beltran or B.J. Upton would be huge.  As for catcher, the only option I see out there is Ramon Hernadez.  He is solid defensively and could definitely handle a great pitching staff like the Giants. It will be interesting to see what Sabean does before the trade deadline on July 31st.

Stay tuned!

Five strong for tonight's game!

Vogey, Cain, Wilson, Timmy, and Pablo!  Even though we will be lucky to see one Giant to get any playing time tonight, I'm still pumped to see all these guys there.  If I had to pick one, it's got to be B-Willy!  Everyone wants to see him get in there.  Hopefully Pablo can make a pinch hit appearance and show the AL how hot he is right now.

Is there some retaliation in store tonight?

For those of you that didn't watch the Giants game last night let me break down what went down in the bottom of the 7th.  Torres drew a one out walk by surviving a 16 pitch battle.  A couple batters later he was at 3rd and tried to make it home on a wild pitch.  Right as the pitch got away from the Padres catcher, Torres should have taken off and he would have scored.  Instead, his ADD kicked in and he chased a few butterflies for a second and that made all the difference.  He was thrown out at home and the inning was over.  After the Padres reliever Chad Qualls tagged Torres, Qualls got up and spiked the ball in the face of Torres and the ump.  I guess he was a little pissed about letting Torres get on base after the 16 pitch battle earlier, but still come on!  Right as he spiked it I thought to myself (yelled out loud) that he was for sure going to get ejected for the horrible sportsmanship he just committed.  Every person in the crowd, on the Giants bench, and watching on TV saw what happened.  After the game, Torres was not happy about what went down in the 7th inning and I bet he wouldn't mind if MadBum burned some hair off the chin of the first Padres batter tonight.

If I were Bochy I would demand that MadBum does that exact thing and send a message to the guys in the other dugout that the Giants don't get shown up in their own house.

Go Giants!

No balls, 2 Strikes, you're out

Every sports fan in the Bay Area is frustrated and angry with the NFL lockout and the idea of missing an NFL season is becoming a reality with each day that passes. Last night at midnight eastern time, the NBA joined the "greed is good" philosophy by locking out their players and it's still very early in the process, but most experts agree that the NBA is almost certain to miss at the entire season yet again. Two of the big three professional sports organizations are out and it dawned on me today that we could miss the NBA Finals (and the entire three months of playoffs leading up to the finals) and the Superbowl. That leaves us with Bud Selig's upcoming problem. The MLB collective bargaining agreement expires December 11, 2011 and although today is July 1, that date is on the horizon.

MLB locked out the players in 1994 and suffered a tremendous setback once they did comeback. Many fans, adults who pay the for MLB players to enjoy the plush lifestyle they lead, were fed up with the greed of both players and owners and it has taken MLB over a decade to regain the trust of it's fans. I would like to think that a fairly smart guy like Bud Selig would do everything within his power to avoid following the NBA and NFL down the lockout path. This should definitely be a lesson of how not to do business, of how to appreciate every last dollar of the current billions MLB rakes in annually and for the life of me, I just hope that we have an agreement before the deadline.

The NFL should have had the conversations they are currently having during the 2010 season to avoid the current disaster that is the present lockout. MLB is in a much more delicate situation than the NFL. NFL fans will come back to the games the moment the lockout is lifted and a deal is reached with an open heart and wallet. MLB fans may not be so gracious, especially considering the economic forecast for most Americans.

This is my note to Bud Selig. Get off your ass, get to the bargaining table and make sure the MLBPA understands the significance of missing games because all fans are watching you, hoping that despite all the terrible decisions you have made that affect fans, you will make the one right decision that matters the most.
