Personally, I am 100% on Smith side. All the guy did was QB the team to a 6-2 record and post quality numbers across the board. He get's hurt for a game and half and get demoted to an somewhat unproven 2nd year player? Doesn't add up to me. Maybe it's Harbs ego and personality getting in the way here. Or maybe it's something that not even the media has hit on yet.....
Was there a QB controversy behind closed doors before Smith got injured? I know KAP and a number of other unproven young guys were killing it in the early i the year in practice. Either way, no matter what a player should have to fail in on the field to lose there job. Well, unless your Jamarcus Russell!

I feel horrible for Alex Smith. But I also trust Harbaugh, and maybe Kaepernick is just better. Still, this feels so weird. Here are the 49ers, trying to win a #1 seed and a Superbowl, and they replace their quarterback, who has had a very good season and a half. It seems unprecedented, but I guess the Brady/Bledsoe situation was pretty similar. 3 Superbowl titles in 4 years please!
ReplyDeleteI think that Smith is getting a raw deal. I've never been a huge fan and think he has simply benefited from a fantastic defense and top 5 running back in Gore. But, once Smith got someone to trust him (Harbaugh) he flourished. He was a game manager and won games. As a Seahawk fan I would rather play a cocky rookie that will try to do too much with his arms and legs vs a savy veteran who understands what he is capable of and thrives within those parameters.
